Petition #15

Give Citizens More Control Over Public Spending

India should continue to follow the principle of one citizen, one vote. However, modern technology allows citizens to participate more directly in important decisions than was possible 50 or 100 years ago.

Taxpayers and non-taxpayers alike should have greater visibility and influence over how public money is spent. Instead of giving some citizens more voting power, we should give all citizens more control and oversight.

Possible reforms include:

Public online voting on major national projects and spending priorities. Citizen review and approval for large welfare schemes, borrowing programs, and major budget increases. Greater transparency on how tax money is allocated and spent. Public dashboards showing project costs, progress, and outcomes. Advisory citizen panels involving subject matter experts for areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and finance. More frequent digital referendums on major policy decisions.

Democracy should not be limited to voting once every five years. Citizens should have more opportunities to participate in decisions that affect their lives and the future of the country.

The goal is not to give some citizens more rights than others, but to use modern technology to create a more participatory, transparent, and accountable democracy.
